Banana Math
Hey, it’s perfectly acceptable to use edible math manipulatives!
4 + 1 = 5
I don’t think our kitten, Mika, is helping Loryn much.

I love this kind of blog entry/meme. Sooo quick and easy, but it gives some insight the kind of gal I am, I think. BTW, I bummed this from my daughter’s blog.
If your life was a movie, what would the soundtrack be?
Directions:
1. Open your mp3 library
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press Play.
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the Next button.
6. Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool.
7. Don’t skip songs. (Unless they happen to be podcasts/foreign/downright perverted and you don’t want your sister to think you’re some sort of dirty whore.)
Paige’s Note: I’m not only giving you the “soundtrack” of my life, but I’m commenting on the songs as well. *BONUS*
My Movie:
Opening Credits ~ What’s Up? - 4 Non Blondes Didja know the lead singer, Linda Perry, has written/produced for several artists…including Pink and Christina Aguilera? This was one of my fave songs when I was in high school. And I liked her crazy-ass hat she wore in the video. I think they opened for Aerosmith once…my hairdresser (back when I went to a hairdresser) went to see that concert, and I was jealous.
Waking Up ~ Keep Your Hands to Yourself - The Georgia Satellites Whatever happened to these guys? One of the best opening lines of a song: “I gotta little change in my pocket goin’ jing-a-ling-a-ling”.
First Day of School ~ Shoes - Kelly Yes, I have this on my iPod. Blame Shelby for showing me this guy on YouTube…Betch.
Fight Song ~ Faster Kill Pussycat - Paul Oakenfold (Featuring Brittany Murphy) OK, remember the chunky girl Alicia Silverstone’s character Cher ”made over” in the flick Clueless? Well, several years later that actress, Brittany Murphy, got really skinny and dated Ashton Kutcher (pre-Demi). Then I guess she recorded this song with Oakenfold. I like Oakenfold, and I like this song lots. But I’m not sure why. I’m also not sure how I know all this crap.
Happiness Song ~ Release the Stars - Rufus Wainwright Hey, who knew we’d have a Rufus song in this list? Duh!
Life’s Okay ~ Grace Kelly - Mika OMG I like this song sooo much. (Wow…I just channeled my 14 year old). I love this guy’s voice, he’s cute, and this song makes Loryn really happy. ‘Nuff said.
Mental Breakdown ~ Just Like Heaven - The Cure Hands up if you love The Cure. Funny how it all comes around, hmm? Today’s Goth kids should bow down to their Lord, Robert Smith.
Driving ~ Seether - Veruca Salt It’s simple…grrrls rock (and kick ass)!
Flashback ~ Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison Appropriate as a “flashback” song, with the lyrics “Do you remember when…we used to sing Sha La La…”
Getting Back Together ~ You Picked Me - A Fine Frenzy Dave and I saw A Fine Frenzy in concert when they opened up for Rufus Wainwright back in August of this year. I was blown away by their melodies…Dave, not so much. He spent a lot of their set getting beer. Of course, no one can top Rufus…but they were pretty darn close. I could even see myself going to see them again, sans Rufus. Maybe.
Wedding Song ~ Ball and Chain - Big Brother and The Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin Funny again…For the “Wedding” category, we have Ball and Chain. This is a live version, from the Monterey International Pop Festival…where the world first sat up and noticed the wonder that was Janis Joplin. Eight minutes of pure blues-y rock.
Birth of First Child ~ Build Me Up Buttercup - The Foundations Why do I feel like I need to justify this song’s appearance on my iTunes? Shut up…I like it.
Final Battle Scene ~ Mr. Brightside - The Killers Great song. “I just can’t look, it’s killing meee”. Sounds like great 80s synth-pop.
Death Scene ~ Modern Love - David Bowie Who doesn’t like David Bowie? Honestly. He’s cooler than ever.
Funeral Song ~ All These Things That I’ve Done - The Killers One of the best refrains ever recorded: “I got soul but I’m not a soldier”. I just might have this song played at my funeral, for realsies.
End Credits ~ 1234 - Feist I’ve been listening to this song a lot, lately. One of my current faves.

She makes YouTube vids, of course! The toons in this clip are Shelby, followed by some of her friends. And she even included her sisters in the clip. (Aww…what a sweetie!)
I’m not at liberty to tell who’s who, but if you know us you might be able to figure some of them out.
[NOT included: ME! Shelby, what about your ever-kewl rockin’ Mama?]
Oh, and in case you’re interested (Mom/Nannie, since I didn’t get to talk to you): She did fine during the procedure yesterday. She didn’t need to have the IV (thank Goddess)…she’s a tough chick, ya know. She came home groggy and numb and swollen, slept for several hours yesterday, and was feeling well enough to have dinner with Dave and the girls. (Yes, I had to work…I couldn’t get a substitute to cover my shift).

Funschool Challenge Day

We had fun at our co-op’s Challenge Day last Friday. My amazing friend Sonya had our large group break into teams and perform skits and do team-building activities. It took some coaxing to get the older kids (and some of the parents…me included) to participate, but when our groups started communicating and brainstorming together, it turned out to be loads of fun.
Testing my camera
A cute pic of Tori and Ashlyn. I asked them to say “Cheese”, and Ash suddenly threw her arms around Tori.
These guys are too cute. They have been getting along so well lately, playing their cute made-up games. In their imaginative world, Tori is “Baby Leon” and Ash is “Baby Donald”.
When Shelby plays their game, she’s known as “Baby Cloud”.
I probably shouldn’t have told you that. ![]()
How about a little depression to go with my guilt, please?
My nine year old, Tori, has been feeling under the weather for the past few days. Stuffy nose, cough, all that crap. And you know that snot sound, when kids breathe in (or try to) through the nose, and it sounds like “SSNNNGGGKK”? Well, I heard that sound so often that I was starting to get nauseous. It’s totally gross. Tori never had a fever though, and I think she’s started to feel better over the last couple of days. Fingers crossed.
Yesterday, Ashlyn and Loryn had fevers, and I’m pretty sure Loryn is still fighting one. No way to be sure, of course, since you can’t get near her with a thermometer. And she refuses to take any medicine. Probably better, anyhow. I don’t know how well OTC meds (or any meds, really) work. I just want so badly to take away any pain or discomfort. Oh yeah…and she’s constipated again, too. (Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln…how did you enjoy the play?)
I did get Ashlyn to take some (generic) Children’s pain reliever yesterday, and for the record I think she is feeling better. Again…fingers crossed.
To top all that, this morning, at 10am, Shelby is going to have six teeth extracted. These are six “baby teeth” that need to be pulled so that the orthodontist can put her bottom braces on. And with two sick little girls, I can’t take Shel to her appointment, and I have major Mama guilt over that.
Good news is that the ex (Shelby’s bio-Dad) is stepping up. I’ll give her breakfast: Chamomile tea, toast with raspberry jam, and 2 Valium. Mike will take her to her appointment, stay with her during the procedure and then bring her home. I’m hoping she can get through the procedure with little (or NO) pain, and that she won’t need an IV.
*UPDATE* Shelby and Mike just left. My stomach is all jumpy. I imagine hers is as well. Hey…maybe I should have a little of that tea. Do you think it’ll mix well with bourbon?
It’s rainy today, gray and miserable. I’m trying to get a sub to work for me at the library tonight, so that I can stay home with my sick/recovering babes, and so far the chick I’ve called hasn’t returned my call. Maybe I should try someone else. My head is pounding and I can feel the tension in my neck…a sure sign that I’ll end up absolutely worthless tonight, and will probably need a muscle relaxer to knock me out at bedtime.
Anyone else ever get bogged down in this Mama Guilt crap? Any suggestions as to what might help?

YouTube embedding is up and running on HSJ! Thanks so much, Ron and Andrea! I’ve had this song stuck in my head for days now, and finally I can share it with friends and family. BTW, I’m lovin’ on those FOTC boys…can’t wait till their first season DVD comes out.

earlier tonight, all by herself! No nursing or anything!
Yay! (Right, Stacy?!)
I was in full “Internet Obsession” mode tonight, wasting my time fiddling with Firefox and blog-hopping, when she climbed up on the couch with a blankie.
Loryn has this new expression she’s using all the time: “Hep, Doosh”, which I’ve interpreted into “Help, Dudes” (but I’m just guessing, there). Anyway, she said “Hep, Doosh” a couple of times, then I heard a big yawn and turned around and saw this face.
I love photos of sleeping kids.
